A recent study of salaries in the United States shows that there are many high-paying jobs across different industries and cities—not just for celebrities or company leaders.

In fact, about 1 in every 127 jobs in the country pays over $500,000 a year, which adds up to more than one million jobs nationwide.

Technology: Leading the Way

The tech industry is home to most of the highest-paying jobs. Silicon Valley, in particular, is known for offering very high salaries to its engineers and executives, because talented individuals there can have a big impact on a company’s success.

Medicine and Law: Classic High Earners

Jobs in medicine and law continue to offer some of the highest salaries. Doctors and lawyers are always in demand, and those with specialized skills can earn even more, although the number of patients or clients they can serve limits their overall earnings.

Finance and Energy: Big Earning Potential

Cities like New York and Houston are centers for jobs in finance and energy. Wall Street firms and major oil companies pay their employees well, and salaries in these industries can be as high as those in technology.

Location Matters

Where you live can affect your income. Some areas—including Austin, Boston, and Miami—have a lot of people earning more than $500,000 per year. Cost of living, available job sectors, and quality of life all play a part in this trend.

Remote Work Changes the Game

Remote work is making it possible for people with high-paying jobs to live in areas with lower costs, without giving up their high salaries. This means places like Las Vegas, Honolulu, and some rural areas are now seeing more highly paid professionals.
